OVERVIEW
What Happens When You Eat Soy is a bold, beautifully animated episode from the “What Happens When” series. Co-directed by myself and the brilliant animator Etia Van Hell, this episode unpacks the truth about soy with clarity, flair, and a bit of sass. From hormone myths to rainforest fears, we tackle the misinformation and explain the real science behind one of the most misunderstood foods in the modern diet.

CHALLENGE
Soy: One Bean. So Many Myths.

Despite being one of the most widely consumed legumes on the planet, soy has been vilified in popular culture and nutrition circles—accused of causing everything from man boobs to cancer. We faced the challenge of distilling decades of misinformation, pseudoscience, and food industry bias into a short-form animated explainer that’s both credible and compelling. Our goal was to cut through the noise and bring real, evidence-based storytelling to the screen in a way that felt accessible and entertaining.
